The Freethought Fellowship is an inclusive community of independent thinkers interacting with each other to share common interests, goals, experiences, and views.
We are all members of the human race, sharing the same small, fragile planet.
There are universal issues that affect the lives of all of us. Rather than accepting the prevalent “Us & Them” culture of today, we hope to bring concerned people from all backgrounds and beliefs together to form a partnership.
We want to work hand-in-hand toward common objectives.
The purpose of fellowship is to get beyond preaching and debating, and to promote dialogue and understanding between believers and non-believers. This inclusive approach demands mutual respect and tolerance, but it does not mean everyone will agree on all issues. However, we can work as a team to promote the values we do share.
A fellowship is a group of people interacting with each other to share common interests, goals, experiences, or views. Many of the original members of this forum came from an anti-faith movement. However, we have grown and evolved, and clarified our aspirations.
Gone are the days of debating faith versus anti-faith. What people believe or don't believe in their personal lives should not stand in the way of working hand-in-hand towards common objectives.
We are all members of the human race, sharing the same small planet. There are universal issues that concern and affect the lives of all of us. We should never write someone off simply because of his or her religious or political inclination. Sometimes you can find yourselves with the strangest of bedfellows. With such a vast majority of people still adhering to
Christianity and other traditional religions, a partnership to accomplish joint goals is a sensible approach to success.
The purpose of fellowship is to get beyond preaching and debating, and to promote dialogue and understanding between believers and non-believers.
Views are not altered by debate. On the contrary, debate usually causes people to cling more tightly to their beliefs in an attempt to substantiate them. People change their views on their own, by listening to each other with mutual respect.
Fellowship can bridge the gap between the freethinkers and religious people. The moderates are not the enemy here. On many issues, they would be considered secular liberals.
Most mainstream non-fundamentalists are in favor of the separation of church and state, indifferent towards gay unions, divided on the issue of abortion, and against the forced teaching of Intelligent Design in schools.
This inclusive approach demands mutual respect and tolerance, but it does not mean everyone will agree on all issues. There will be rules in place to help prevent internal forum wars. Fundamentalism of any sort goes against the very nature of freethinkers. Proselytizing (trying to convert somebody to a religious faith or political doctrine) will not be encouraged nor
permitted within this forum.
This applies to all members, and includes theistic or non-theistic preaching. We are intolerant of intolerance!
